Comet Talk: Back From Bakhmut
Back from Bakhmut: CCC Student Reflects on his Time at the Front

Join Wyatt Johnson and Dr. Matthew J. Hernando for an open-ended discussion of the war in Ukraine, its devastating consequences for the people of that war-torn nation, and its larger geopolitical ramifications. Last year, Wyatt served six months as a volunteer fighter with the 1st International Company of the 516th Battalion, Ivan Bohun Field Artillery Brigade of the Ukrainian armed forces and saw action near the infamous city of Bakhmut. He will provide insight into the situation based on his experiences and take questions.

Wyatt currently works for CCC's Security Department and completed his Associates Degree at CCC in May. He is now a student at Grand Canyon University where he is working toward a degree in Emergency Management & National Security. After high school he joined the U.S. Army as a 19K tank crewman where he served three and a half years until his contract ended. Matthew is an instructor in History and Humanities at Coconino Community College. He earned his Ph.D. in history at Louisiana State University, and he has taught history at the collegiate level for over 12 years.
